When do I need an ECTN?
You must obtain a valid number before loading; cargo may be held otherwise.
You must obtain a valid ECTN number before loading. Without it, cargo may be held or fined at destination.
When to Apply
- Apply as soon as booking is confirmed
- Allow at least 2–3 business days for processing
- Some countries require validation 48 hours or 5 days before vessel departure
Consequences of Not Having ECTN
- Cargo clearance blocked at destination port
- High demurrage and penalty charges
- In some countries (e.g. DRC), penalties can reach 150% of CIF value
What Shipments Require ECTN
Almost all sea freight shipments to required countries need ECTN, including:
- Containerized cargo (FCL / LCL)
- Breakbulk / RORO cargo
- Project cargo and engineering materials
